When you are adding a product, you may want to have multiple pack sizes with various pricing. In order to set this up, you will need to first enter how you are going to track your inventory. You have the choice to track by either count or weight. The way you track your inventory (count or weight) will determine how you sell your product.
You can select unlimited inventory if you have a lot of something and don’t feel the need to closely monitor the amount sold. If you do want to keep track of your inventory, enter in the starting inventory amount here. We will use beets as an example to describe this process. Let's say, you are selling beets by the bunch, you may want to select count in this case. Select the count option in “inventory by”. Since you have 500 bunches of beets in the field, type in 500 in “count inventory”.
Next, you can choose when to get notified. You can select to be notified once a product sells out by checking the box next to “Notify me when this product is sold out”. You also have the have the option to receive a notification when the inventory reaches a specific level that you choose. First, decide if you want to determine that level by count (or lbs/oz if you chose weight for inventory tracking) or the percent of the total remaining. If you want to know when you only have 100 bunches left, you would select count and enter “100” in the box next to it or for the percent option, you would select percent and enter 20 in the box next to it. You have the option to get notified at 3 different points so it's easy to keep track of your product's inventory. And again, if you don’t want to manage any of that, you simply select Unlimited inventory.
Once you enter selection of how you track your inventory – count or weight, you can begin to create different pack sizes. You will need to enter at least one per product. The “Package name” will be seen by your customers so you will want to enter a name that will make sense to them. If you are tracking your inventory by count you could enter names such as each, bunch, small bag or case. If you have a case of 12 bunches of beets, you would enter in: case for “package name” and 12 for “Qty”. Quantity is the amount per pack and will tie to your inventory tracking. Next, If you sell them at $2.00 per bunch you would enter $2.00 in “price per count” and the display price is calculated for you. If you are not tracking inventory, you selected unlimited inventory over here, you could simplify that by having your Case (package name) as a 1 count (Qty) at $24 (price per count). On the other hand, it can be helpful to have your packages set up with that extra level of detail so that you can easily use the inventory tracking feature in the future, if you decide.
If you are tracking by weight...
- Your “package name” could be case.
- Then select “weight unit” which is the average weight of your case. For example, 10 lbs.
- Finally, add the “price per pound”. Let’s say it’s $2.00/lbs.
- The total cost/ display price is then calculated for you. Ex) $20.00 per case
